Laura de Lange

Pianist Laura de Lange is very active in the field of chamber music and Lieder accompaniment, frequently performing with singers Wiard Witholt and Nienke Oostenrijk. Over the years she played many concerts with Jascha Albracht (violoncello), Joachim Eijlander (violoncello) and Roeland Jagers (viola). Because of her interest in musical theatre she also collaborates with actor/singer Kelvin Wormgoor. Laura has given concerts in the Netherlands – the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Rotterdam concert hall De Doelen among them – and abroad, in major cities in France and Germany. In addition, she regularly performs for Dutch radio stations. Laura is being coached by Hans Eijsackers.

Laura’s concerts stand out for their carefully selected programs and her accompanying oral explanations. She elucidates the works and outlines the lives of the composers in an accessible manner, which strengthens the bond with audiences, creates greater involvement, and makes listening more enjoyable. More than a decade of enthusiastic audience response has convinced Laura of the added value of oral explanations to concerts. In 2012 she was invited by the Amsterdam Conservatory to give a lecture on this subject. Additional lectures will follow.

The romantic music of her ancestors Daniel and Samuel de Lange Jr. plays an important part in her musical life. Establishing the De Lange Foundation, she has revived interest in the musical legacy of these composers, who were once famous, major characters in the Dutch musical scene, but are now virtually forgotten.

Laura has recorded two CDs exclusively dedicated to the music of her forefathers which have been acclaimed by public and press alike. A review of the violoncello/piano works by Samuel de Lange Jr. in the monthly magazine ‘Luister’ mentioned “….the impressive performance of Laura
