Lawrence Zazzo

 

Born in Philadelphia, American countertenor Lawrence Zazzo studied English literature at Yale University, music at King’s College, Cambridge, and voice at the Royal College of Music, London. As an opera singer, he has performed throughout the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra de Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Berlin Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, La Monnaie Brussels, Vienna, Zurich, Lyon, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Glynde-bourne, Seville, and Santa Fé. He has worked with leading conductors in both early and contemporary music including René Jacobs, William Christie, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Trevor Pinnock, Christopher Hogwood, James Conlon, Peter Eötvös, and Thomas Adès, and regularly appears in concerts and recitals at Wigmore Hall, Versailles, Edinburgh Festival, Lincoln Center Festival, Leipzig Bach Festival, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and the Musikverein. His CD and DVD recordings include Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Serse, Partenope, Riccardo Primo, Griselda, Saul, Deborah, Messiah, Byrdland, Lunarcy, Lotario, Fernando Ré di Castiglia, Chichester Psalms, Stabat Mater, Apollo et Hyacinthus, and Mitridate.
