Wayne Marshall

Wayne Marshall was born in 1961 and is an English pianist, organist, and conductor. He’s the Chief Conductor of WDR Funkhausorchester in Cologne and Organist and Associate Artist of the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.

He became Principal Guest Conductor of Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi in 2007. He has performed many times at the BBC Proms and was a co-presenter for the Barenboim Prom in 2014. He was the BBC Music Magazine’s Artist of the Year in 1998 and in 2010 became a Fellow of the Royal College of Music. In 2016, Wayne received the prestigious Golden Jubilee Award in commemoration of his services to music. Wayne is a celebrated interpreter of Gershwin, Bernstein, and other 20th-century American composers.

Today he is a British conductor, organist and pianist. Along with serving as Chief Conductor of WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne, and Organist and Associate Artist of the Bridgewater Hall.

As an organ recitalist, he performs worldwide with a varied repertoire. As pianist/director and organist he has performed with orchestras including the ‘Los Angeles Philharmonic’ and ‘Berlin Philharmonic’ under Rattle and Abbado.

In 2004, he gave the inaugural organ recital in the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles and in 2006 he inaugurated the organ at the National Grand Theatre in Beijing. He is a regular performer at the BBC Proms.

Past appearances include the UK première of ‘A Scotch Bestiary’; Last Night of the Proms in 1997 and the First Night in 2008; conducting ‘Porgy and Bess’ to celebrate the Gershwin centenary and four ‘Proms in the Park’.

His previous Organ album called ‘Passion Symphony’ was released by Base2 Music in Pure DSD at NativeDSD. That album has received numerous excellent reviews. In 2010 Wayne Marshall became a Fellow of the Royal College of Music. And in 2016 was awarded the Independence Golden Jubilee and made an OBE by her majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to music in 2021.
