Dom Pedro, son of King Alfonso of Portugal, and heir to the throne, fell in love with Inés de Castro, a chambermaid. They became lovers and soul mates. The scandal was too much for the king who consequently ordered the killing of Ines in front of her and Pedro's infant child. When Alfonso died, Pedro's first act as King was to have Ines' body exhumed from the grave, dressed in royal robes, and carried 50 miles along a candlelit route to Alcobacá where she was crowned as his Queen. This is her 6th album at NativeDSD.\r\n\r\nAfter the sometimes very densely woven musical sound fabrics and musical structures created with electronic instruments that characterized my previous albums, I turned to reduction, in order to express the same thing with the fewest and most natural means, yet with the least loss. The result of this creative endeavour was the album Why The Wings?\r\n\r\nI have removed the virtual spaces from the music, letting go of chanting echoes, even noises that become music, or any form of rhythm section. Instead, there is silence and only one space, the real one. The space in which the sounds were born, as they sounded at the moment of recording.\r\n\r\nIn the center of Budapest, in the church of the Bartók Béla Unitarian Parish. This space echoed the sound of his own organ, Veronika Szász's singing and Péter Cseh's guitar playing, and it is the memory of this music-making that is immortalized on this album. In its original and purest form, it preserves the moment manifested as sound and shows how they interacted there, leaving the silence, condensing into music and returning to the silence.\r\n\r\n\u003chr\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cstrong\u003eVeni (Veronika Szász). Nobody wore headphones and no one was in an isolation booth. So, if we couldn't hear each other, a dynamic adjustment had to be made.\r\n'\r\nThere aren't many musicians who would agree to play this softly and uncluttered on an album. The ability to play less is a true sign of a seasoned veteran musician. Throughout the 1980s Steve built up a reputation in the New York scene, playing and recording with many big names.\r\n\r\nSteve Davis has a keen ear that appreciates the sounds of silence as well as the sounds of music. \u003cem\u003e“The power and beauty of a song is determined by the notes that you don’t play, as much as it is the notes you play,”\u003c\/em\u003e Davis muses in the liners. Though an oft-touted goal, it’s one not generally made by drummers. Here, however, Davis really does “play” the silences thus living up to the promise of the project’s title.
