This is her 6th album at NativeDSD.\r\n\r\nAfter the sometimes very densely woven musical sound fabrics and musical structures created with electronic instruments that characterized my previous albums, I turned to reduction, in order to express the same thing with the fewest and most natural means, yet with the least loss. The result of this creative endeavour was the album Why The Wings?\r\n\r\nI have removed the virtual spaces from the music, letting go of chanting echoes, even noises that become music, or any form of rhythm section. Instead, there is silence and only one space, the real one. The space in which the sounds were born, as they sounded at the moment of recording.\r\n\r\nIn the center of Budapest, in the church of the Bartók Béla Unitarian Parish. This space echoed the sound of his own organ, Veronika Szász's singing and Péter Cseh's guitar playing, and it is the memory of this music-making that is immortalized on this album. In its original and purest form, it preserves the moment manifested as sound and shows how they interacted there, leaving the silence, condensing into music and returning to the silence.\r\n\r\n\u003chr\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cstrong\u003eVeni (Veronika Szász). The improvisations, recorded completely freely, reveal intense and refreshing dialogues, while the themes composed by André Mehmari — Canto Primeiro, Carta a um Jovem Poeta, and Valsa Gris — add layers of structure and depth to the work. The use of instruments such as the piano and analog bass synthesizer creates rich and varied textures, transporting the listener to unexpected sonic landscapes. Mehmari adds:\u003cem\u003e “In each of these ‘Cities,’ we imagine and create, without rehearsals, a musical microcosm.”\u003c\/em\u003e\r\n\r\nThe partnership between Sérgio Reze and André Mehmari is one of the pillars of contemporary Brazilian instrumental music. Reze, described by Mehmari as a \u003cem\u003e“rare drummer, who approaches his kit in an orchestral way, with a broad palette of colors,”\u003c\/em\u003e brings a unique approach to his instrument. Meanwhile, Mehmari, in addition to being a virtuoso pianist, explores timbres and harmonies that challenge conventions, creating a dialogue that is both technical and emotional. Together, they build an album that celebrates not only their journey but also the ability of music to transcend boundaries. As Reze reflects: “I cannot recall a single musical encounter where there wasn’t a sense of freshness, mutual interest, and intense, stimulating sonic dialogues.”\r\n\r\nThe project was recorded and produced by Gustavo Cândido of ADS, whose expertise allowed the magic of these performances to be captured with the utmost fidelity, transporting the listener to the heart of each performance. The recording was done in discrete immersive format, using high-end equipment such as Merging Technologies Hapi Mk II Analog to Digital Converters, Schoeps and DPA microphones, as well as Reaper and Pyramix workstations in Ravenna AoIP, with immersive monitoring using Dynaudio Contour and Emit 20 speakers.\r\n\r\nInvisible Cities is more than an album — it is an artistic statement that reaffirms the power of collaboration and the beauty of improvisation.
