The wind, air blowing through the pipes of the organ, the invisible waves of sound that shape a song - the driving force that inspires traveling, broadening horizons.\r\n\u003ch3\u003eTranscending boundaries by way of a shared musical imagination\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\nThe three members of the Rembrandt Trio, after fifteen years of touring the world together, found themselves grounded in The Netherlands when the world came to a standstill in 2020. Known for their curiosity-driven approach to music, incorporating many different musical cultures into their work and collaborating with grandmasters from different countries and continents (most notably with Persian grandmasters Hossein Alizadeh and Kayhan Kalhor) - the trio was now forced to stay put, stop performing, travelling, and collaborating.\r\n\u003ch3\u003eRecorded at Orgelpark, Amsterdam\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\nThis time of reflection made The Rembrandt Trio realize how all their journeys of the past fifteen years had shaped a shared musical vocabulary that all three could draw from - and a musical trust that they had come to cherish deeply. They decided to record an album of songs that brought into play these collective memories, a shared imagination in which they still traveled the world. In February 2021, they secluded themselves in a former church in Amsterdam, called Orgelpark, filled with antique organs, and recorded with Just Listen Records. On “A Wind Invisible Sweeps Us Through The World” they take the melody as their guide and drawing on their communal experience on stages across the globe, they play compositions that feel timeless, have a universal quality about them, and connect across cultures. Songs to transcend boundaries - those of eras and places - as a much-needed release in times of suspension.\r\n\r\nJust Listen Records and the Rembrandt Trio would like to express their gratitude to Maene Pianos for the use of one of their wonderful instruments, and Orgel­park Amsterdam for letting us record in their space ­the acoustics reflecting back a history of sound.\r\n\u003ch3\u003eUniversal Songs\u003c\/h3\u003e\r\nWhile touring venues all over the world, the trio discovered that some compositions shared a special kind of magic that translated wherever they were played. Often, the pieces were based on themes from different times and cultures - a Bach motif, a Chinese folk song, a whiff of Armenian folklore. Beautiful, strong melodies that touched audiences no matter their background or culture. Like fairy tales told all over the world might have different characters but share the same plot: What it is to be human. The trio decided they wanted to create this kind of ‘universal’ music, keeping it concise and powerful - with melodies that have a universal quality, touching listeners everywhere. Its narrative structure obscure, leaving concealed all but the most explicit references to the drama on which Schoenberg based it. The album is a Live to Stereo DSD 256 recording made at the SuperSize Recording Studio in Hungary on September 12-13, 2021 using the Hapi Analog to Digital Converter from Merging Technologies. It was produced by Róbert Zoltán Hunka, recorded by Dexter, and mastered by Tom Caulfield at the NativeDSD Mastering Lab.\r\n\r\nThe album is a collection of Jazz compositions that are adventurous and emotional. Sometimes moody and lingering, sometimes more unexpected, and sudden changes are waiting for the listener. The music is often high-energy and improvisations end in climaxes to create emotional moments.\r\n\r\nThe music is exploring a wide variety of styles from mainstream Jazz to more groove-based forms. From more melodic based, European sounding concepts to neo-soul\/wonky moods and even a highlight 12-minutes Disco improvisation \"\u003cem\u003eFresh\u003c\/em\u003e\".\r\n\r\nGábor's improvisational style often arches over long chord progressions building up to a climax. Although I personally would prefer invisibility, there is something enviable about the freedom of being able to fly, to soar through the sky, above all the stress and troubles of life down on the ground. A lot has been said and written about how Vaughan Williams wrote The Lark Ascending during the 1st World War “when a pastoral scene of a singing bird on the wing seemed far removed from reality” (Betsy Schwarm, Britannica). I sometimes imagine people living through difficult times looking up at the lark, envying its life and freedom that they wish they had. It's a moving piece with soaring melodies and the lark's “silver chain of sound” (George Meredith's poem The Lark Ascending).\u003c\/em\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cem\u003eSoaring melodies are present in Barber's Concerto as well. Although it opens with a generous and warm melody, it doesn't take long for uncertainty to creep in, and large sections of the 1st movement are dominated by an “in-between” kind of feeling – in addition to the unbelievably triumphant and satisfying return of the opening theme of course! The 2nd movement is, for me, one of the most touching and heartbreaking pieces of music. It reminds me of Somewhere from West Side Story. Hope, pain, and longing for something better. It is just endlessly beautiful... The first two movements of the concerto are emotionally and dramatically linked in that they both have short solo violin cadenzas towards the end. The two are similar to each other – very tense and devastating, like an existential cry. They are followed by a bizarre, disturbing, entertaining, and adrenaline-inducing 3rd movement to end the piece. In a way it makes no sense to end this way, but that's part of the fun of it.\u003c\/em\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cem\u003eBruch's Violin Concerto is a piece with its heart on its sleeve. The 1st movement is a very serious and dramatic introduction, the 2nd incredibly touching and sincere, and the 3rd so joyous and life affirming. A raga is traditionally a monophonic melody, though Paul and Peter take liberties, incorporating occasional counterpoint and harmony (often in thirds).  Each raga adheres to a strict musical structure, which can be executed vocally or on instruments in their individual styles.  The tala is the cyclic rhythmic framework which outlines a beat cycle and provides the glue to bring the instruments together in polyrhythmic play. I love what Pete and Paul do within this classical tradition, blended from time to time on this album with their inspired incorporations of new music and jazz.
