In the early eighties they cherished the dream of founding a new label that would give room to repertoire that was being neglected by the major companies. Sadly, both David Rossiter and Michel Arcizet are no longer with us. In 2002 Coda Distribution bought the label with the late Paul Janse (1967-2014) and Dirk De Greef as A\u0026amp;amp;R managers. The new ownership maintained its path of discovery. Under their supervision the label developed its strong profile further. To this day, exploration and excellence are the brick and mortar of Etcetera Records with Dirk De Greef and Roman Jans as the driving force. The reducciones made the native communities less vulnerable to the continuous raids by the paulistas, slave hunters operating from the nearby Portuguese territories. For the Spanish Crown it was essential that the reducciones functioned as a safety cordon against the Portuguese along the borders.\u003cbr\u003eThis isolated situation, far away from the cities, had its advantages: the reducciones were selfsupporting and exported their surplus products. Leaving or entering the regions was restricted, and social functions were carried out by the natives themselves. There were only one, two or three missionaries living in the reducciones. The social and economic structure had utopian and pre-socialist features. The Jesuits succeeded in reducing the taxes imposed on the natives by the Spanish Crown, thus improving their standard of living. It was partly because of this success and the growing power of the Order of Jesuits that in 1767 Carlos III ordered them to be banished from the Spanish territories. Their deportation was carried out within a few weeks and by use of military force. As a solo cellist I’m of course very grateful to Haydn for composing his two fine cello concertos, and although the D major concerto is more lyrical than the C major concerto that was composed twenty years earlier, I love both works equally. They both demand a virtuoso style of playing, but the D major concerto has more depth. I first played the C major concerto when I was ten years old, the D major concerto somewhat later. At that time my playing was very much based upon my own intuition, but it was thanks to my father, the cellist Yke Viersen, that I was made to study scores as closely as possible from a very young age
