Amsterdam Sinfonietta commissioned the English composer David Matthews to arrange this song repertoire for string ensemble and baritone. These intimate compositions were performed in this new version for the first time in large-scale concert halls.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe practice of orchestrating older, preexisting songs became the vogue in the nineteenth century, coinciding with the blossoming of a whole new genre; the orchestral song. Composers such as Mahler, Wolf, Berlioz, Liszt and Strauss wrote songs for piano and voice, which they later ‘emancipated’ by arranging them for voice and orchestra. A number of composers, including Brahms, Berlioz and later Weber and Reger, paid homage to their predecessors such as Schubert and Schumann by orchestrating their songs. On this recording only the version of Samuel Barber’s song Dover Beach remains close to the original. Composed for string quartet and baritone, the song is heard here in an arrangement for baritone and string orchestra\u003c\/p\u003e\n\nhttps:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AGIYNsJCCnk","brand":"Channel Classics","offers":[{"title":"FLAC 96 kHz \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":56739105866052,"sku":"38917-7","price":19.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"FLAC 192 kHz \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739105898820,"sku":"38917-9","price":20.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"FLAC 96 kHz \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739105931588,"sku":"38917-10","price":19.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 64 \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":56739105964356,"sku":"38917-14","price":23.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 128 \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":56739105997124,"sku":"38917-15","price":25.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 256 \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":56739106029892,"sku":"38917-16","price":29.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 64 \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739106062660,"sku":"38917-17","price":23.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 128 \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739106095428,"sku":"38917-18","price":25.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 256 \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739106128196,"sku":"38917-19","price":27.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DXD 24 Bit \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":56739106160964,"sku":"38917-22","price":25.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DXD 24 Bit \/ 5ch Surround","offer_id":56739106193732,"sku":"38917-23","price":25.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"FLAC 192 kHz \/ 2ch Stereo","offer_id":57309985243460,"sku":"38917-6","price":20.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 64 \/ 2ch Stereo \u0026 5ch Surround","offer_id":57335964139844,"sku":"38917S1417","price":28.49,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 128 \/ 2ch Stereo \u0026 5ch Surround","offer_id":57335964172612,"sku":"38917S1517","price":30.49,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true},{"title":"DSD 256 \/ 2ch Stereo \u0026 5ch Surround","offer_id":57335964205380,"sku":"38917S1617","price":34.49,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0966\/7900\/2436\/files\/38917-2.jpg?v=1790488359","url":"https:\/\/www.nativedsd.com\/products\/38917-tides-of-life","provider":"NativeDSD Music","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
