On The Golden Hour Sessions, pianist \u003cstrong\u003eRembrandt Frerichs\u003c\/strong\u003e returns to the standards of the Great American Songbook with bassist \u003cstrong\u003eJos Machtel\u003c\/strong\u003e and drummer \u003cstrong\u003eVinsent Planjer\u003c\/strong\u003e, guided by the question behind every jazz performance worth hearing: what does this music have to say today?\r\n\r\nThe title refers to that brief window before sunset when the light turns warm and everything softens. Photographers treasure it because it cannot be staged, and it never lasts. Frerichs hears improvisation the same way. The finest moments on this album were never planned. They arrived when listening to Machtel and Planjer became more important than deciding what to play next.
