Our friend Rush Paul, well known to you at NativeDSD, kept asking for DSD tape transfers of some of Yarlung’s earlier recordings, and Orion seemed like the perfect fit after the success in Munich.
- Bob Attiyeh, Producer (Yarlung Records)

Read Full Producer's Note from Bob Attiyeh

Yarlung Records continues its 20th Anniversary series of reissues from the master tapes in Pure DSD 256—Hurrah! Pianist Orion Weiss delivers J. S. Bach’s French Overture and Scriabin’s Fifth Sonata with astonishing nuance and power—so vividly rendered that it feels as though one is seated beside him on stage at Zipper Hall in The Colburn School.

First experienced in the Rockport/Absolare room at the 2024 Munich High End Show, this recording stunned audiences with its realism and emotional intensity. Every element—from Weiss’s artistry to Yarlung’s minimalist two-microphone technique using Neumann U47s, and Rockport’s exquisite playback system—combined to recreate the magic of a true live experience.

True to Yarlung’s philosophy, the album preserves the natural acoustics of the hall without added reverb, allowing the warmth of the air, the resonance of the wood, and the immediacy of performance to speak for themselves. Produced in celebration of Yarlung Records’ 20th Anniversary with support from executive producer Don Saltzman, this release honors both the label’s uncompromising approach to purity in sound and Orion Weiss’s exceptional musicianship.

With the generous help of Steinway & Sons and David Ida, and the technical guidance of Elliot Midwood, the result is an album that embodies Yarlung’s mission—to capture timeless artistry in its most authentic and lifelike form.

Orion Weiss, Piano
