Bob Attiyeh
Producer & Recording Engineer, Yarlung Records
Bob Attiyeh founded Yarlung Records in Los Angeles to capture music exactly as it sounds in the concert hall. Every album is recorded live, without a mixing console, and almost entirely on custom-built gear. Balance and depth are set before the first take by moving microphones, adjusting the hall's acoustics and placing the musicians, so there is no post-production. Vintage tube microphones, including a 1969 AKG C24 once owned by Frank Sinatra, feed a custom Yarlung preamp. Each session is captured simultaneously on analog tape, in DSD256 and in high-res PCM, in stereo and surround. Yarlung focuses on classical music, with jazz and global fusion along the way. Attiyeh is a Grammy winner with three further nominations.
