Flèche d’Or (Arrow of Gold) is a new album from Swingaro, a trio that plays Manouche or Gypsy Jazz music on the 2xHD music label. It features classic songs written by Django Reinhardt, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, and George Ulmer.

Gypsy Jazz (also known as Gypsy Swing, Jazz Manouche or Hot Club Style Jazz) is a style of small group Jazz music originating from guitarist Jean “Django” Reinhardt, in conjunction with French swing violinist Stéphane Grappelli, as expressed in their group the Quintette du Hot Club de France.

Fleche d’Or (Arrow of Gold) is a One Microphone Recording that was recorded direct to Analog Tape. The album was recorded ‘off the floor’ on 1/4” analog tape on a Nagra IV-S Tape Recorder with the CCIR eq curve, with no overdubs and no editing.

This is a wonderful, spontaneous, direct recording by Rene Laflamme from 2xHD. It was recorded at L’Église St-Jean Baptiste in Montreal on January 30, 2021. Only one Neumann stereo Tube microphone SM69 was used in a Pure Blumlein microphone technique.

The Analog Tape was then transferred to Stereo DXD which was the source of the Stereo DSD and DXD editions of the album. A Stereo DXD to Stereo DSD 512 edition of Arrow of Gold was created by Tom Caulfield at the NativeDSD Mastering Lab using the Signalyst HQ Player 4 Pro mastering tools. The Stereo DSD 512 edition of the album is exclusively available from NativeDSD Music.
