On “Parvat” (meaning Mountains in Sanskrit), composer and violinist Harpreet Bansal takes the Raga into the world of symphonic sound. It is her debut album on the LAWO Classics label,

A Raga is a melodic framework for improvisation akin to a melodic mode in Indian Classical Music. The Rāga is a unique and central feature of the Classical Indian Music tradition, and as a result has no direct translation to concepts in Classical European music.

Each Rāga is an array of melodic structures with musical motifs. Considered in the Indian tradition to have the ability to “color the mind” and affect the emotions of the audience.

Together with her distinguished fellow soloists Vojtěch Procházka on Harmonium and Sanskriti Shrestha on Tablas, and a radiantly willing Norwegian Radio Orchestra led by Hannu Koivula.

Harpreet Bansal – Composer, Violin
Vojtech Procházka – Harmonium

Traditional music can still be taken by surprise. The beaming violinist Harpreet Bansal from Sagene in Oslo has through strong albums and concerts shown formidable abilities to spread her performances of Indian Classical Music. Whether it’s playing with Jazz and Improvisational musicians, or in full symphonic settings.

In her work “Parvat” (which means mountains in Sankarit), she takes over in symphonic form with KORK, led by Hannu Koivula and joined by the co-soloists Vojtech Prochazka (Harmonium) and Sanskriti Shrestha (Tabla).

In three overwhelming and intricate pieces full of beauty, the music unfolds as dynamic rock formations, full of the contrasts of nature and culture. With writing assistance from contemporary music giants Jan Martin Smordal and Jon Oivind Ness.

This is a beautiful, fascinating, and overwhelming album from Norwegian violinist Harpreet Bansal.
