The Sonata for Two Keyboards KV 448 of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) is widely acknowledged to be not only one of his finest keyboard compositions but also an outstanding exemplar of this genre. It was composed expressly for a house concert that took place on 23 November 1781 at the house of Johann Michael von Auernhammer in Vienna; on this occasion, Mozart performed the work with Josepha Barbara von Auernhammer, daughter of the house and one of Mozart’s pupils. On a later occasion, he performed it with another of his pupils, Barbara Ployer.
