Bach + Paternoster (Remastered)

New Remastered Edition in Stereo & 5.1 Channel Surround Sound DSD plus Auro3D 7.1.4 Channel Immersive Audio & Spatial Stereo

Bach + Paternoster (Remastered) is a remastered edition of the album presenting an imaginative reconstruction of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, conceived and performed by cellist and conductor Vito Paternoster. The album features three concertos derived from the original viola da gamba sonatas BWV 1027–1029, alongside two sonatas for cello and continuo reconstructed from the violin sonatas BWV 1021 and BWV 1023.

As described in the booklet, Paternoster re-envisions Bach’s chamber music through creative transcription, imagining how these works might have existed as concertos for two cellos and strings. Although multiple performers appear to be involved, the project is in fact entirely realized by Paternoster himself, performing cello parts, directing the orchestra, and shaping the continuo.

Recorded in 2019 at Music Suite in Sammichele di Bari (Italy) and issued in a remastered 2026 edition by Farelive, the album combines scholarly insight with interpretive individuality. The result bridges historical awareness and personal artistic voice, presenting Bach’s music through the expressive depth of the modern cello.

When Maestro Vito Paternoster came to hear his performance remastered in Auro3D 7.1.4 Immersive Surround Audio in our new Atmosphere Studio, he exclaimed: "Amazing!".

At Native DSD, you can also find the Spatial Stereo version which we especially recommend. Derived from that Binaural Immersive listening experience, the Spatial version offers an enveloping sound that represents the acoustic instruments within the resonant environment, as in a live concert. The wonder lies in the complete three-dimensionality of the sound, not only when listening with headphones but also when listening through speakers, since the focal point of the sound image is further from the foreground of the instruments. For this reason, the instruments pick up the vibrations of the surrounding environment, greatly enriching also the voice of his extraordinary cello, making it more alive and realistic than ever.
