20 Years of Hunnia Records

Twenty years, around 400 albums and a sound that never compromised: Hunnia Records is celebrating its 20th anniversary! Label owner Róbert Zoltán Hunka has written a few words to mark the occasion, which we are proud to publish here below. It’s a wonderful way to get to know the Hungarian label better.

Welcome to our artists, our engineers, our partners, and our dear friends. Thank you all for being here at NativeDSD Music to celebrate 20 years of Hunnia Records.

When we first started back in 2006, the music landscape was vastly different. Digital compression was taking over, and the world was moving toward convenience over quality. But we at Hunnia had a different vision. We believed that music is an art form that deserves to be captured in its purest, most authentic state. We wanted listeners to feel the warmth of the tape, the room’s natural acoustics, and the true soul of the performance.

Twenty years and around 400 albums later, standing here in 2026, I look back and realize that we didn’t just survive as an independent label – we flourished.

Twenty years is a milestone, but for us, it is just the intro. The melody is still being written.

We became pioneers in high-resolution audio, capturing masterpieces in pure DSD256 and keeping the magic of analog mixing alive on our beloved Studer mixing console. From classical and jazz to world music and contemporary sounds, Hunnia Records has become a sanctuary for artists who refuse to compromise on their sonic vision.

But gear and technology mean nothing without the people.

To our incredible artists: thank you for trusting us with your music, your passion, and your vulnerability. You are the heartbeat of this label.

To mark this milestone, we have launched our 20th Anniversary DSD256 Remaster Series, revisiting some of the finest moments in our catalog, from Camilo Sauvalle to PapaJazz, and breathing new life into them. Three albums from the series are listed below:
