Here, everything feels “right”

Welcome to ‘Dodd’s DSD Discoveries’, a review series from NativeDSD Senior Music Reviewer Bill Dodd. This series focuses on Bill’s latest selections, with new reviews regularly.

I want to thank Semyon Bychkov and the Czech Philharmonic for the wonderful couple of hours I just spent listening to this Pentatone double album release featuring Dvorak’s 7^th, 8^th, and 9^th (New World) symphonies.

It’s easy to have some strong favorites in this music– Some great conductors have done them very well– Kubelik, Fischer, Colin Davis, Szell, and others I wouldn’t want to be without. But this recording was exactly the Dvorak I didn’t know I needed: A fine orchestra, perfectly recorded, with a talented conductor who finds a lot of “heart” in this music. The simplest way of stating it is that everything just feels… right!

The three additional, shorter works are quite enjoyable.
