This recording of violinist Sonoko Miriam Welde (her first) received superlative reviews from Gramophone and Fanfare.
Lawo’s Recording Engineers did a masterful job as usual. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. I look forward to more recordings from Welde in the near future.
I have lived with a CD version of Jazz at the Pawnshop since the late eighties. I first heard the album in the local HiFi shop then just a few years ago I purchased it as a Native DSD download.
This Reel to Reel version is a real eye opener. Nothing can duplicate the true dynamic impact of what it must have been like to have been at the live venue all those years ago.
Just one thing - the track choice is missing some of my favorites like Barbados and a few others.
I first heard this in my local HiFi shop in the early nineties as it was a reference recording. I first bought it on Vinyl LP, then on Stereo CD and then on a Native DSD download.
On first listening to the Reel to Reel Cantate Domino it almost brought a tear as the shear scale and dynamic was so much more convincing. Wow
One thing - slight clipping on the second tape. First noticed very slight on the CD but even more on tape. I suspect it's on the original recording. I still recommend this edition of the album.
WOW! A masterpiece combination of music, conducting, orchestral quality, a fine hall, and one of the most-transparent and well balanced recordings I've ever heard. And I've been listening for about 65 years.
The '4 Orchestral Pieces' are a delight. The 'Concerto' is simply wonderful.
Ms. Canellakis is an excellent find. I thank EVERY person who was involved with this.
I own all of Anna Fedorova’s recordings available at Native DSD and enjoy every one. This Rachmaninoff 3 is gorgeously played by pianist and orchestra, and beautifully recorded by Jared Sacks and the Channel Classics team.
Rachmaninoff Concertos are among my favorites. In my initial listening, it seems that Fedorova displays even more personality in this performance. But I haven’t done a side-by side comparison yet.
I want to stand up and applaud at the conclusion. The Symphony and Messenger are very enjoyable and equally well recorded.
I have owned this album of Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in 24/88 format for years. The performance and recording are top notch, better than other albums of Piano Concerto No. 1 that I have owned but removed from my local hard drive, including Zimerman with LA Phil released by DG, and a Linn Records album.
On this album by the Warsaw Philharmonic it sounds warm and enveloping. Harmonia Mundi captures a wide soundstage and places the piano nicely within the sound field. In my 2-channel Stereo system, the DSD 64 format is just cleaner throughout. The piano is more crisp and stands apart from the orchestra at ease, even in the competing waves of orchestral emotions just after halfway into the first movement.
Olga Kern’s notes are remarkably clean, uncluttered. Every note from the left and right hand is there to paint the soundscape. The Fantasy-Impromptu track has a dynamic range of 20.6. Lesser playback systems may have difficulty conveying the varying moods of the piece. Kern’s virtuosity is displayed in abundance here.
This production is pure gold. Cowan is one of the top guitar players of his generation. He is now playing a spruce guitar so the colors, dynamics and cleanness of his technique are quite impressive.
This is not Steve's best quality. The most remarkable one is his sweet musicality. The 24 Ponce integral of the Preludes is a landmark in this recording. His Weiss on guitar will make lute players to be jealous.
A great recording debut for HR Recordings and for guitarist Steve Cowan.
There are not many recordings available with music composed by Gaspard Kummer. I only know of two from 2010 and 2011 and those are dedicated to his Flute "Trios" and "Quintets" so this production is the first one presenting his works for Flute and Guitar Dúo - and in 32 bit Stereo DXD audio resolution!!!
Kummer was considered one of the best flute players and flute composers during the 19th Century in Germany. His music is delightful and charming. In this 93 minute recording we find all his known music for Flute and Guitar Dúo.
Juan Cossio makes his recording debut. Showing a clean and pristine technique, and perfect understanding of Kummer's language and musicality. If you are a flute fan or a romantic music lover this album is for you!!!!!
This is a startling set of pieces. They inspire both emotional and intellectual wonder.
The playing is quite simply sublime as is the recording, benefitting from the highest quality audio reproduction. It is a unique and brilliant addition to my music collection which I cannot recommend highly enough.
My sincere thanks to all involved with this outstanding and innovative project. It is life enhancing!
As for every time a David Manley product (might they be microphones or other audio gear) is involved, the result cannot be less than outstanding. And, as the same could be said about Giulio Cesare Ricci.
These recordings have the beautifulness of the brightest spring afternoon. They rightly put into your listening room the density of each instrument and the voices sound so present, real and simply human.
When Giulio Cesare personally told me here in Turin that the Manley stuff was exceptional he surely didn't lie.

Mauro Giuliani is very well known composer in the sophisticated world of Classical Guitar today. We know and have a good discography for most of his solo guitar compositions and chamber music. Those, you can find easily in the market. However, that is not the situation when it comes to the vocal compositions of Giuliani and this is really strange because his vocal music is probably some of the best quality pieces Giuliani ever wrote.
I know three productions previous to this. One called "The Dream Songs Project" containing op.89, op.13 and op.95. Then we have a version with a Tenor (not the best voice for this kind of music in my opinion, they are very much soprano songs) that has a Tenor and three groups of songs, op.95, op.89 and op.39. Then I have an "old" recording from 1989 with a mixed bag of music by Giuliani including his songs op.95 and op.89.
So it is a happy day and good news that we find a full program dedicated to Giuliani's songs and recorded in High Resolution Audio! Bingo!!!! This recording contains all the songs by Giuliani with the exception of the Romance op.27 and 5" Ariette op.95". There is one from this group of songs recorded in this album, but only one.
Mauro Giuliani songs are really a discovery. The melodic line is something you don't find in the rest of his compositions maybe with the exclusion of his guitar concerts. Here, we discover an inspiration and talent for melody of the highest caliber. In this recording we have songs in French, German and Italian. We have all the "Romances" op. 13 and op.22, (both in French), the "Sei Cavatine op.39" (Italian text), the "Sechs Lieder op.89" in German, I believe the first world recording of "Romance op. 151" and the "Ode di Anacreonte, op.151bis". We also have the first of the op.95 "Ariette": "Ombre amere".
Eleni-Lydia Stamellou sings these songs from the bottom of her heart. You never get tired of hearing her singing. The pitch is perfect, the color of her voice is very unique, singular, and special. It is very appropriate for this kind of Lieder. She has a well controlled and nice vibrato and her stylistic domain on the songs is perfect. The balance with the guitar couldn't be better. Guitarist Agustin Maruri provides his beautiful sound, clean technique and the best musicality as always.
Thanks a lot to HR Recordings for putting these songs in the right place. I am sure that many are going to be surprised by this great collection of very special songs.
First, this is one of the best recordings I have heard transferred directly from the Analog Master Tape to DSD. It is my sincere opinion that Vladas Straupas is a genius in this business. My most sincere congratulations.
Second, the artistic quality of Pigeon Is My Friend is exquisite. The truth is that it is one of my first contacts with a music group of Baltic origin and I have been pleasantly pleased.
Third, thank you Native DSD for allowing us music lovers to experience and enjoy the highest quality musical art made in all parts of the planet.

I am very pleased with the recording quality of this album. I am currently listening to this recording every day since I bought it. I can highly recommend this masterpiece.
I loved how they recorded the Bass. Everything is very natural and detailed. But on the bass you are able to hear your fingers running across the wood and strings. Just fantastic.

I knew the Chamber Music by Erik Marchelie. The first recordings of Cello and Guitar music I bought from the Jones & Maruri duo had several pieces by Marchelie. It was a discovery because pieces like "Don Quijote y Dulcinea" or "Eclipse" prove the first class and grand category of music by Marchelie.
To discover this production is a great surprise to me. A full album with solo guitar music by Marchelie is unique. Marchelie is a guitarist and a composer. So these pieces are among the best new "classy" guitar music you can find this days. He has a strong composer personality. When you listen one of his compositions almost immediately you can say: it's a Marchelie piece.
I am not a fan of Catherine Liolios playing but she is just right for these pieces. She plays a Dominique Field guitar, probably the best guitar maker right now in the world. The recording is superb.
I am not a fan of baroque music but I am interested in music history especially Buxtehude's life and heritage. I wanted to own a recording of his famous Membra Jesu Nostri and it seems that I just got the perfect recording. Every minute, every second is just a pleasure to listen to.
I have been following this collection of remastered live operas with Pedro Lavirgen and other great singers from the 60s and 70s. It is an irregular series when it comes to sound quality if we are at NativeDSD for the best sound quality available in the digital music market today.
Having said that these recordings are really great for the fact that they are historical recordings, live recordings, and only that is for me a very important contribution. Some of them sound better than others. Some are just mono restored others are stereo and almost for sure most of them are probably amateur recordings done with who knows what equipment 50 years ago. For me what I really enjoy is the atmosphere. The performances are superb, and the historical value is very attractive.
This one in particular, Manuel de Falla's "La vida breve" sounds pretty good. There are not that many recordings of this opera and I am almost certain this is the only one I know so far that is "live". Beside the anthological one with the unique Victoria de Los Angeles, this version is becoming my favorite.
Pedro Lavirgen , Ángeles Gulin, Lucero Tena and Rafael Frübek are more than a reason to really enjoy this recording. On this one, the remastered audio job is fine.
"Hemdat Avot" is a phenomenal album that left me in awe. Dayan's talent and understanding of Israeli music shines through in every song, and the stripped-down approach to the production only adds to the emotional impact of the album. It also sounds fantastic.
The lyrics are powerful and the singing is emotive. Highly recommend this album to anyone who appreciates great music and storytelling.
