For being a farewell party, it sure invites you to come back again and again with the fantastic drum work as well as the other instruments adding to it in just the right way.
If "old synth" tickles your fancy, this is the album for you. The mixing of various "wave" genres makes for an interesting listen. Especially when it's your first time.
After hearing the preview on YouTube, I did not hesitate and bought this unique vocalist in DSD 512 format and I did well!
I fell in love with the lightness, simplicity and naturalness that brought me to the neighboring culture. Since I'm from Slovakia, it's closer to what it seems like. I recommend Unfold Live to all lovers of quality music and a beautiful girl's voice!
This album is an absolute must-have. It's all here. When done right, the French Horn can be the most beautiful instrument and here it is done right. So are the winds, oboe, and entire orchestra. There are so many five star quality pieces here, I could listen to this all day long.
This album can be played on repeat all day long. Is that a kettle whistling at 20 sec of track 3 ???
The sound quality is impeccable on my DSD 128 version.
Another great discovery on the Native DSD site which I greatly appreciate for the high quality of its service and the DSD files offered.
The Pure DSD files offered exclusively at Native DSD are pure happiness. Unfortunately for me, many of the Native DSD albums are Classical Music which is not my main interest (a matter of taste).
With this album, I discover an extraordinary singer. She offers and masters a wide choice of musical styles. This is a magnificent album that is well recorded. The percussive rhythm section and the music is not tiring to listen to with headphones even at high volume.
Carmen Gomes is an artist who when she sings manages to give you many emotions. Her voice is unique and fantastic. I did not know her before and only now that I have listened to this album I realize that she is a singer with all the trimmings.
The songs on this album are a combination of different styles. A Jazz and World Music blend that gives you a compelling sound.
The success of this work was also brought about by a single Josephson C700S Stereo Microphone. It is a unique device capable of capturing sounds in their true nature. Sound Liaison possesses great expertise in this field, and always manages to make recordings that are State of the Art. I have purchased other albums from this label and I can confirm that they are all very well recorded. The sound is natural and fascinating. Being able to record with just one microphone is not easy, but they do it great!
What a wonderful acoustic jazz album this is. The songs have a compelling sound. You feel that they are playing music generated by true passion. It immediately captures you. The artists are brilliant in creating this music. It is really good.
The album's sound quality features great timbre depth, really beautiful detail in the mid and low range. I'm sure Hi-Fi enthusiasts will find many things to enjoy here.
Bill Evans is my favorite artist. I know his adorable style very well. This is an album that lets you enjoy the magic of Bill Evans.
On the album we hear all his great Jazz mastery. The notes of his historic piano have a unique elegance. In the attacks and releases his technique is refined. Evans is never banal because he always finds reasons that know how to capture you.
His jazz has always been adorable, and his fellow adventurers have always known him to love him. It is no coincidence that he has always played in a trio. Three musicians are a more congenial setting that made him happy.
I listened carefully to this album that I downloaded in FLAC 192. I must say that the sound is very analog, even if it lacks a bit of dynamics. As if there was a veil that does not let the upper part of the frequencies flourish and therefore the recording is affected. But it in no way detracts from the fact that we are in the presence of an exceptionally good recording.
I have always thought that when you sit down and listen to good music it must be exciting. This album succeeds from the first song. It is truly a marvel!
This Jazz is fantastic jazz and very smooth. The artists also had a lot of fun while recording it. The notes that came out of their instruments were crazy magic. Just listen to the first song on the album and you will realize how they thought and played it. Their sound immobilizes you on the armchair, recharges your spirit and soul.
Having said that and having understood how much I love this album; it will be the same for you when you listen to it. A recording in stellar audiophile quality.
I discovered the Rembrandt Trio by chance. I must say that I immediately fell in love with it, due to their musical uniqueness.
In the songs you find a pleasant well-being, a well-being that captures your soul from the very first notes, which makes you feel good about yourself immediately. Their music has beautiful harmonic nuances. It is an intimate sound that is hidden in their musical folds. It winks at distinctive styles, but without ever placing the accent on one. That's what makes you love this extraordinary music.
When you listen to it for the first time turn off the lights, close your eyes, and let the music pervade you completely! The sensations will be beautiful.
This is a great album. It is a recording that will make many audiophiles happy.
Great performance and the recording is good quality. However, the Gran Finale of 1812 Overture clips at the very moment of peak energy. I tried different DACs and configurations, same clipping :(.
This album is really fantastic in all aspects. Musically it is unique, very attractive and beautiful. The timbre of the instruments is incredible. The performance of the musicians is perfect.
The first time I listened to this album, I called my wife over. We listened to the album together from start to finish without saying a single word. At the end of the album my wife said Pure Magic!
The music has an amazing materiality and harmonic presence. You will understand what I mean when you start to listen to it on your Hi-Fi system.
I offer my personal congratulations to everyone involved with the making of this album. I look forward to their next album. For now, this has become one of my favorite albums.
I confess I would not have considered purchasing this album had I not been tempted to do so by the Black Friday sale! I am very glad I succumbed. Although the music is generally very familiar to me, the performances of the singer and the band who I had not previously encountered were first rate and the sound in its original DSD256 format was quite spectacular. As a matter of possible interest, I listened to the album through my Chord Mojo/Poly combo and my Dan Clark Audio Aeon 2 Noire Planar Magnetic headphones.
I am listening to this album as I review it. I am absolutely blown away by the beauty of the music and the extraordinary fidelity of the recorded sound. Cantate Domino is a particular highlight for me, a truly stirring piece. My own recording is the DXD version. In my view, yet another triumph for the 2xHD label and thanks to NativeDSD for offering it with a very welcome discount.
Magnificat is the first album I bought in DSD. Although I prefer Rock, Pop, and Jazz music, this album allows the listener to approach classical music more simply.
It must also be said that the quality of the DSD sound of this recording brings us closer to the sound of Vinyl LPs. It was the sound that first brought me into the world of high-end audio. That is why I hesitated for a long time to throw my Thorens 125 Mk. II turntable and its SME 3009 arm which had been broken down for many years in the trash.
A word about the Native DSD website. This is a serious site for me to find reference quality DSD files. The NativeDSD team is always at your service and always finds a solution in case of problems. The site is well done and has evolved well. NativeDSD's secure payment option is also present and much appreciated.
My configuration:
Audirvana under Windows music software
Topping d50s DAC
Audiophonics power supply
Little Dot Mk. II headphone amplifier
Sennheiser HD 599 headphones.
I own several Brahms Symphony #4. After hearing Maestro Honeck and the PSO's performance, this one rises to the top for me!
The Symphony is dynamic and alive. The percussion is not just for emphasis but becomes a beautiful musical instrument engaging with the rest of the orchestra. I own the multichannel DSD 256 version and music flows deep and all around my soundstage. Soundmirror does a magnificent job making sure each part of the orchestra is heard distinctly and yet blends to form the whole of the orchestra.
Reading Maestro Honeck's detailed description in the accompanying pdf file gives you a great insight into the composition and his approach. Listen to the low res sample tracks to get an idea of this outstanding performance. There are sections of each movement that are absolutely thrilling, especially the last couple minutes of each movement ends.
Forget all the critics' hyperbole, with all their adjectives lurching & stumbling over themselves. frankly, the decades of experience in conducting this symphony just isn't there in this Fischer recording. As nice (indeed polite!) as it is, this is tame compared to Bernstein, Abbado or Haitink! Next time, I'll ignore the critics, & stick with the known.
Two stars seems a little stingy, but I just can't bring myself to click a third star; it's just not that stellar.
Adrian Quanjer, if any review would motivate me to purchase an album, it is yours with this one. Your sentence is a stunning compliment, "Well, the performance has to be heard, rather than read about, to be struck by its immensely gripping power, turning many other recordings into bleak collections of noise." I agree completely. In fact, it's an understatement to say "...immensely gripping power...".
Each time I listen to this recording, I am completely emotionally involved. Add the thought that Bruckner was musically portraying entrance into the afterlife, and we all become emotionally connected. It is not casual; you do not multi-task while listening. Instead, you pay attention. It sweeps over you in waves of delicious melodies punctuated with visions of dodging demons to embrace God and his angels.
Soundmirror did an exceptional job recording/mixing this performance. I own the DSD 256 multichannel surround version. Recreating the power of this music in your home is a sheer joy.
I truly enjoy listening to this recording multiple times. Most highly recommended!
Every track sounds great but I was quite disappointed with Symphony No. 5's volume. Probably my future hifi setup will give more justice to this album one day.
