Schubert Winterreise D. 911

(…) A very touching, very involved reading with a warm heart.

‘A striking Winterreisse from Thomas Oliemans and Paolo Giacometti benefits greatly from high resolution sound, all the way up to DSD512’

A striking Winterreisse from Thomas Oliemans and Paolo Giavcometti benefits greatly from high-resolution sound all the way up to DSD512

More life experience, a deeper voice, a richer frame of reference.  A Schubert that goes deep under the skin.

(…) Oliemans’ interpretation is mainly based on the colouring of the voice. His bright baritone voice is excellent, especially since he can use the head voice very effectively. Bright, tender tones full of despair are very often directly opposed to rough, almost hoarse sounds, which express bitterness, not to say disgust, because on his long journey the young man becomes more and more tired of himself. Lovely flashbacks are rare, but effective, because the hopelessness becomes even more gripping, all the more so as Paolo Giacometti has an important word to say at the piano. (…)
