Intrada is the latest album in the First Chairs series from Channel Classics. Available in Stereo and 5 Channel DSD and DXD it features trumpeter Omar Tomasoni, pianist Jeroen Bal and saxophonist Femke Ijlstra. This is Femke Ijlstra's third Stereo and 5 Channel DSD release at NativeDSD Music. Omar Tomasoni says "It took me about twenty years before deciding to record my first solo album. This project was always going around in my head, but I never felt ready for it: too many question marks, which program, good enough, what kind of interpretation and so on... In the end I decided to record some of the “classics” from the trumpet repertoire and give them my today’s personal interpretation. Two events convinced me it was the time to do it: the birth of my son Siebe and the pandemic year. Two extraordinary (for different reasons) events which made me understand how things can change so rapidly. I want this album to be a testimony of the artist I am today. Special thanks to my partners in crime, outstanding musicians, and inspirations, Jeroen Bal and Femke IJlstra. Also, many thanks to Rob Goorhuis for accepting my invitation to compose an original piece. His canzoni went beyond my expectations."

This recital (part of Channel Classics’ First Chair series with the Amsterdam orchestra) exhibits playing of such exacting brilliance that old warhorses appear reignited, surrounding an attractive trio for trumpet, saxophone and piano.

de Volkskrant

Maartje Stokkers

If you haven't heard Omar Tomasoni in the Concertgebouw before – he is the solo trumpeter of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) – now is your chance to hear him up close. Together with Jeroen Bal (pianist of the RCO), Tomasoni has made his debut album with trumpet classics such as the two Konzertstücken by the German-Russian composer Vassily Brandt (1869-1923).

In this the notes roll out of the trumpet like marbles. Tomasoni's speed and articulation are phenomenal. Brandt shows in his music what is possible on a chromatic trumpet. The neoclassical, etude-like antics are dazzling. Tomasoni, his trumpet proud and clear, exposes more nuance in timbre and dynamics in Arthur Honegger's Intrada.

In Légende, George Enescu alternates dreamy landscapes with technical passages, in which the piano (bravo) artfully mirrors the trumpet. You can hear the richly varied Canzoni (2021) by Rob Goorhuis, in which atmospheres and colors alternate seamlessly. The bronze saxophone of Femke IJlstra (Tomasoni's partner) is like a warm caress.
