Mozart: Clarinet Concerto in A Major K. 622 [DSD EP] is a specially priced Digital Only Release. Not Available on CD or SACD. Featuring Sabine Meyer with the Kammerorchester Basel conducted by Giovanni Antonini. Sabine Meyer is one of today’s most renowned instrumental soloists, and has made a major contribution to the international fame of the clarinet. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto is ‘the finest work ever written for a wind instrument’, she says: ‘beside it, everything else takes a back seat’. Of course, she has already recorded this masterpiece before. But she is now keener than ever to use the specific instrument for which it was written, the basset clarinet, and her encounter with the conductor Giovanni Antonini, whose background is in ‘historically informed performance’, convinced her to offer a new recording, made in 2022 with the Kammerorchester Basel. Together they have found new colors in this concerto, which she considers ‘so profound and so rich in expression and compositional ideas that one rediscovers it each time’.
