The Viola Sonatas from the Royal Chapel of Madrid brings to light a fascinating and little-known repertoire preserved in the archives of the Spanish Royal Chapel. Violist Pablo de Pedro Cano, together with Lorenzo Meseguer (cello) and Samuel Maíllo (harpsichord), playing on period instruments, offers a vivid and finely detailed reading of a selection of sonatas that epitomize the musical language cultivated at the Bourbon court in the 18th century. This album reveals a repertoire of remarkable expressive range: music shaped by the elegance of the Galant style, enriched by the lyricism and rhythmic vitality characteristic of the Spanish tradition. Through refined phrasing, stylistic clarity and a historically informed approach, the performers illuminate a body of works that—despite their quality and individuality—have long remained in relative obscurity. With this recording, Eudora Records continues its commitment to recovering and showcasing the artistic legacy of Spain’s musical heritage, offering listeners the opportunity to discover a distinctive chapter of the Royal Chapel’s instrumental tradition.
