Juvenilia centers around the early works of Johann Sebastian Bach. While much attention is given to his later works, his youthful keyboard compositions remain vastly under-appreciated, being seldom performed and even more seldom recorded. Despite this, they exhibit a richness of inventiveness, youthful spirit and experimentation, while simultaneously foreshadowing the compositional hallmarks of his mature style.
This album contains early compositions by Bach as well as pieces by Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Adam Reincken and Georg Böhm, who had a significant impact on Bach’s artistic development and musical identity. The programme is rounded off by two anonymous and never before recorded pieces from the Andreas Bach Buch.
