I love these recently discovered Fantasies. All those musical moods, from thoughtful to elegant and playful.
Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir's transcription is so welcome for viola players (like me). Her recording makes me love the Fantasies even more. She plays these musical moods with tenderness and expression.
A beautiful voice with rhythms that flow like a tide that ebbs and flows. One just drifts off into her music, which leave you relaxed and ready for almost anything.
Mad Love For "The Full Monty!"
Come for Monty's piano. Be enthralled by the piano, bass, drums and percussion!
What a great quartet! As though four minds are playing as one. They truly compliment each other.
And, what a great recording! You can hear every luscious, brilliant note. Maybe even better than it was being there?
If you like good music, really, really good music, buy it now!
This album achieved want-list status in Fanfare. High-res PCM is very good. To my ears, DSD provides greater clarity and presence. Wonderful musicians — beautifully played and recorded. Van Baerle is still active. Hope they will record more.
Did you always want to hear all the notes in Scheherazade? Of course this requires a great orchestra and recording. And until now the twain had not met.
This is the definitive Scheherazade. I have heard so many and none compare.
Buy it and discard your other recordings. Test your system, turn down the lights. Hear everything. Just fabulous.
Interesting. Entertaining. Moments that are breathtaking. And a fun listen!
With really great sound. Overall, an amazing and enjoyable listening experience.
This is one of my first from NativeDSD and Yarlung Records.
I will be searching for more!

Look, I cannot tell you if the performance is technically a good one, or if better or worse than any other. But I can say that I loved it.

The more I listened to this album the more enjoyable it became.
The first eight tracks were rather understated but each one laid a foundation for the next track. The foundations continued to be laid by tracks nine ("Autumn Leaves") to thirteen ("Voyage") and each one blossomed a little than the previous one. The final track ("Finale") was like a flower in full bloom and then gently fading.
I own all four volumes of the "Hidden Voices" series; Although all are well-played and well-recorded, I enjoy the fourth volume the most of the entire series. The playing and recording are, as expected, impeccable, and the music is outstanding. If you enjoy piano music, I would encourage you to listen to this series--in particular, the fourth volume,.
Izhar Elias is a new guitarist for me and he is playing very finely here indeed. Well mic'd, and as I always hope for - Mr Elias strikes the right mid-point on the spectrum between slavish worship of the composers and self-righteous self-promotion + showmanship.
I also purchased this album for the Binaural option. Comparing files to the 2 channel Stereo recording is interesting; there is definitely audible difference. Sorting out what the difference are in words is challenging, but the two types of files definitely sound different, so this is worth investigating.
One thing I do find (I purchased a number of other Binaural-2Ch Stereo pairs at the same time) is that you find more obvious differences with a group of players versus one musician. Might make sense.
In any case, this is a fine recording indeed, whatever format you choose. Glad to see the options.
Brilliantly recorded, and Lisa Jacobs is presented very well - slightly more forwardly as is my own preference. The mics have been very well located and the spatial separation is excellent.
I also very much appreciate the opportunity to have both Binaural and "regular" 2-channel Stereo options. Comparing them is fascinating and there are clear differences, though much harder to put into words. You will just have to try them out!
Group recordings are more demonstrative of the Binaural difference than single instrument recordings, so this is a good one to try out.
"The String Soloists" are in fine form here and very well mic'd. This is a gorgeous album.
I knew that this would be exceptional. As soon as I heard the entry of the violin at the beginning of the first sonata - it should appear rising from nothing. It does.
These sonatas pay full attention to Bach without either self-effacement of the players (that sense of a false/inappropriate worship of the composer) or the opposite - self-promotion.
In other words, Sebastián and Mercero have struck the ideal balance. The sound, of course, is astonishing. It leaves nothing to desire.
The violin and harpsichord are recorded sounding exactly as live violin and harpsichord. That's the maximum that can be achieved.
The recording and musicians are excellent. However, the music itself just doesn't "speak" to me.
One of the tags that comes up on this album is "Smooth Jazz". Perhaps it is just too smooth for me. I would definitely recommend listening to the sample files.
I could easily see this as being a 5-star recording to the right listener.
This is my first introduction to Maestro Mesolella.
These 5 "suites" composed of the sub-elements shown in the notes, are highly inventive acoustic with a continuing flow from recognizable Latin and Jazz themed variation elements and melodic lines to briefer bursts of hard-edge and distortion, redolent of electric.
A highly style variant, but this is no new age noodling. The ideas are well developed. Reasonably dynamic as plucked strings are, but not overwhelming of affordable headphones.
Recorded in 2016 and released the next year, after his death in March 2017. Perhaps this relationship motivates me as well.
This is masterly creative guitar and it stands on its own. Who doesn't delight in a new musical guide? Sad that he died so early.
Recording debut for Spanish organ player Javier Jiménez and it couldn't be better.
The historical organ from 1786 located in Granada, Spain has an incredible pure sound. The recording is superb and the repertoire exquisite. The last track is really amazing!
