Pirate Jenny

What happens when one of the greatest singers—and the preeminent interpreter of Kurt Weill—decides to completely reinvent his music? And what happens when you capture that voice with ribbon microphones, produced for an audiophile experience like no other? The answer is Pirate Jenny, Ute Lemper’s groundbreaking new album, a bold fusion of classic Weill compositions with techno, chill, and beat-driven textures that transcend genre and create a completely new sonic world. Ute Lemper, celebrated for her decades-long mastery of Weill’s cabaret and jazz-infused works, turns tradition on its head. With tracks like “Mack the Knife,” “Pirate Jenny,” and “My Ship,” she strips the songs down and rebuilds them with hypnotic rhythms, cinematic soundscapes, and cutting-edge production. This isn’t just Weill—it’s Weill reimagined for the 21st century. The album is a fully immersive experience, shifting effortlessly between sultry cabaret vocals and atmospheric beats. Imagine a smoky Berlin jazz club colliding with the pulse of an underground electronic rave. Lemper’s voice carries the haunting, dramatic storytelling of Weill’s originals, while the music opens doors to entirely new audiences—from jazz lovers to fans of experimental and electronic sound. This is not a remix. It’s a reinvention. A sonic journey produced and mixed by David Chesky — that will captivate both longtime Weill devotees and a new generation of listeners ready to discover his music in a bold, new light. Stay tuned. Kurt Weill has never sounded like this.
