Maiden Tower
In a fortuitous encounter at a Polish festival, a piano virtuoso hailing from Azerbaijan crossed paths with a skilled Hungarian percussionist. Together, they conceived the idea of forming a quartet, envisioning the inclusion of a Paris-based Hungarian bass player and a guitarist from Budapest. While this tale finds its place within the realm of jazz, its ultimate outcome proves uniquely favorable. The resultant album stands as a testament to their harmonious collaboration, a stroke of luck that united these four exceptional and distinct musicians in perfect resonance from their initial interaction. Even prior to the album's recording, during rehearsal sessions for a forthcoming concert, the unmistakable alignment of their musical visions became evident. This synergy, combined with the palpable essence and finesse of their compositions and improvisations, lends remarkable coherence to the album as a whole. As you listen, embark on a captivating jazz odyssey that transports you from the enigmatic corners of Budapest to the storied Maiden Tower of Baku.

Elchin Shirinov has developed a sound and approach all his own. His writing and piano playing echo another time yet resonate with a modernity that is striking. He really pulls a sound out of the piano making possible a whole palette of sonic color. It is music worth exploring deeply. – Larry Grenadier
