Jazz At The Pawnshop started off my audiophile journey almost four and a half decades ago. I have owned this album in various formats over the years such as Vinyl, Redbook CD, SACD and FLAC.
I decided to re-visit the album and purchased in DSD 256. I'm blown away by the realism and multi layered detail, a goosebump listen.
Thanks to NativeDSD Music for making this album available in this Analog Master Tape to DSD 256 transfer.
Where music and sound becomes a visual insight. Expertly engineered, mastered and recorded. The DSD EP is music for the music lover and audiophile. It provides the listener with a deep appreciation for the ocean and for our planet.
A very enjoyable EP. A must purchase for any music library that can be enjoyed regularly.
Fantastic album by Carmen Gomes Inc (Audiophile Queen). A very enjoyable album with great vocals and layers of detail.
This album is regularly used as a reference by a highly regarded and trusted YouTube Head-Fi reviewer by the name of Currawong. A professional, no nonsense, no hype, tell it like it is equipment reviewer.
Modern Cool is a perfect title for this album. An Audiophile Queen at her best!!!
Each track is layered with multi layered detail, depth, speed and dynamics. Track No 4 Constantinople is one of my reference test tracks when considering equipment upgrades.
This album is an absolute must purchase for music lovers and Audiophiles!!
What an album!!! Superbly well engineered, produced and recorded in DSD 256. The album takes the listener on journey of emotional musical bliss. The album is a jaw dropper.
Review: I attempt to provide the reader with context for the review comments. The subject is Debussy Preludes, Book 2. This is a collection of short piano works available from Native DSD.
Performance: This performance occurred in Hunnia Record studio on June 17, 2023. David Bell is the pianist. The performance is an appropriate interpretation of Debussy impressionism. Pay particular attention to the third work “La Puerta del Vino” for his cascading rhythms.
Production. The recording was made by the Hunnia team in Pure DSD 256 Stereo.
Playback System. The playback system is designed to be highly resolving in order to adequately evaluate the selection’s attributes. A brief description of the playback system components follows for those interested in such details: Stromtank 2500 power regeneration; Atlas Assimi grounded cables; an Innuos Statement network server; Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC; Tom Evans MasterVibe preamplifier; monoblock Audion Golden Dreams with PX25; and Songer 1x single point source field coil speakers.
Reference Works. For review purposes, I did not compare this work with any others.
Review Elements. Live or Studio Setting; Channel Dominance (Right, Centered or Left;) Soundstage (Deep or Shallow, Narrow or Broad;) Audio Spectrum (Narrow, Wide, Bass Depth, Treble Clarity;) Dynamic Range (Compressed or Expanded volume range;) Instrument Separation (Distinct or Muddy;) Realism (Recorded or Life Like;)
Review: This is a studio production. The channels were balanced with remarkable soundstage depth and breadth, particularly for a single instrument recording. The audio spectrum was wide with Bass Depth and Treble Clarity. The acoustics of the recording studio were superb. This is a solo piano performance. The recording detail is finely detailed. The striking of the hammers on the keys has a “live sound” to it. The reverberation of the piano sound board is subtle and fades to nil with realistic precision. The instrument location was lifelike and distinct with the treble range on the right and bass range on the left as if the listener were a few feet behind the pianist. The Dynamic Range is excellent. The bass is rich and the treble is clear, not harsh.
Conclusion: As one would expect, this Pure DSD 256 recording is studio grade. Actually better than vinyl or tape. A “must have” if one enjoys French impressionism piano works and Debussy. It would be hard to imagine a higher total experience piece. For the combination of all these factors, this is a reference work of this piece.
One of my favorite genres of music is Singer/Songwriter. The New York EP: TRPTK Sessions took me by surprise!! Deep meaningful lyrics, well produced and expertly recorded.
I am looking forward to a full album release by Gayle Skidmore in the near future. Produced, recorded and mastered on the TRPTK label.
Superbly produced and recorded in Pure DSD 256. From the very first track the album gives the listener that same type of vibrant feel as Jazz At The Pawnshop.
The musicians are gently edging each other on in front of a live audience. They are really having fun. The vibrant feel, excitement and emotions are captured by the recording. Each track is layered with great detail such as resonant air blowing through the Tenor Saxophone.
This is an absolute must purchase whether or not you are a great fan of Jazz At The Pawnshop.
The album is filled with speed, attack, dynamics and multi layered detail. Really something to be heard and admired. It places you in the center of the musicians, each track keeps you fixated, excited and wanting to hear more.
This one is a must purchase for any music library. I purchased this one in DSD 256.
As it says in the write up and on the album cover: Warning! Play this album at medium volume.
Highly entertaining, well produced and recorded foot tapping southern type blues music on the Groove Note Records Label. Should you be going through a tough week Stormy Monday is a great listen that will put a smile on your face though good lyrics and some catchy humor.
I found the artist Roy Gaines two decades ago. I purchased True Audiophile: The Best of Groove Note in DSD 64, It is a great compilation of artists. All the compilations are available for purchase and download on the NativeDSD Music Catalogue. The compilations are a fantastic way to explore different artists such as Jacintha, Eden Atwood, Lauren White, Anthony Wilson and many more. These albums are very well produced and the listener does not need to keep your hand close to the volume knob or a finger on volume button when the track changes due to variations in replay gain.
Many of these albums are Transferred from Analog. In our ever advancing technological world and thanks to NativeDSD Music they have made this album, True Audiophile Collections and the individual artists available in higher DSD sample rates.
Vanessa Fernandez is another female vocal artist that I have nicknamed an "Audiophile Queen" .
The album features great uplifting music for on the go or to be enjoyed at home without becoming dull or boring. Or what I call Audiophile Heavy (where a specific genre of music requires a dedicated listening room with a do not disturb sit down to really get the full enjoyment and satisfaction from an album).
Her albums takes the listener on a journey of Pop, Rock, Soul and Various Covers which are all very well produced and recorded. As you would expect from Groove Note Records.
I'm not surprised this album won the 2019 NativeDSD Album of the Year Award for Pop and Rock.
I have nicknames for female artists who really go all out to collaborate with high end recording studios to record and produce such great albums. Carmen Gomes is such an artist. She is an "Audiophile Queen".
I am a big fan of Carmen Gomes Inc. After reading the album's write up I purchased the album without any preview.
I am not surprised that this album, recorded in Pure DSD 256, won the 2025 NativeDSD Album of the Year Award for Jazz Vocals.
A big thanks to the team at NativeDSD Music for challenging Sound Liaison to produce and record the album in Pure DSD 256.
The album is exceptionally well recorded and produced. Each track is a very enjoyable listening experience. The album is a must purchase for any music collection.
This album is perfect for focused listening or unwinding after dark. It cements the Rembrandt Trio's reputation as masters of melodic nuance and emotional depth. A must-listen for Modern Jazz enthusiasts.
A very enjoyable and entertaining album. Well produced and recorded as one would expect from Groove Note Records. Thanks to Vanessa Fernandez (I am also a great fan of her music) for introducing her to Groove Note Records.
Should you be a fan of Vanessa Fernandez, this album will certainly find a place in your music library. I look forward to another release by Aisyah in the not too distant future.
A big thank you to NativeDSD Music for making this album available in the Higher Rates Program. I purchased the album in DSD.
One of my favorite genres of music is Acoustic Singer / Songwriter. This album is so well produced and recorded.
Over the last few years as I have upgraded my audio equipment. The album just keeps providing more detail and realism. To the point that what was slightly inaudible becomes very audible. Placing you in the front seat in the audience. When the last track comes to an end it leaves you wanting to hear more tracks.
I am not at all surprised this album won the 2020 Audience Choice Award. I really look forward to another release by The Coo in collaboration with Just Listen Records.
Many thanks to The Coo and Just Listen Records / NativeDSD Music for such a superb album.
Very calm, relaxing Jazz. Piano, Bass and Percussion. Many details of the music are present. Good sound. Purchased in Pure DSD 256. I admit that both the best albums and my equipment are not known to differentiate between the resolutions.
Jazz molt tranquil, de relaxació. Piano, baix i percussió, sense vent. Molts detalls d'escombretes. Bona gravació.
Comprada a DSD256 i admeto que amb la meva oïda i el meu equip de so no hi noto diferència amb resolucions més baixes o el mateix àlbum a Qobuz. Possiblement no compraré res més a DSD256.
This will be one of the first DSD albums you will want to buy. Good songs and a good version of these two symphonies. I listened to the 5th Symphony many times.
After a brief preview I immediately purchased the album. It is deeply soothing and relaxing at the end of the day.
Since purchasing the album I have listened to it every evening before turning in for the night (the album ticks all the boxes for a Meditative Journeys in Sound). I have tried other meditative, relaxation albums on streaming services but none of them produce the same level of effect and realism.
Many people may will ask but why purchase such an album in DSD 256? My answer to that question is because of the realism. When sounds and or music becomes a feeling (you can feel the music) that's exactly the place any music lover wants to be.
I want to personally thank Vinsent Planjer and the team at NativeDSD Music and Just Listen Records for recording and producing a superb album. This is a truly must purchase to wind down the day, very very rewarding.
Cool Jazz Reload bought in Pure DSD 256. It is a very relaxing album. Maybe just a tad more avantgarde than the first of the Cool Jazz-series. Just sit down and listen. Have heard some of the AI-music lately... what slop. With this you can tell, it has a soul. I love and can recommend it!
Now this album caters to my mood for sure. Sitting here in my beloved chair, the rain outside pouring against the windows with a good wine. Listen to this. Cool Jazz, bought in Pure DSD 256. Pure bliss :-)
As I Travel was not love at first sight. I bought it after listening to the samples for awhile because I couldn't get enough. Love it now for sure. Bought it in DSD 256. The sound is amazing!
A very quiet, yet exhilarating album. Simply a brilliant piece of music that you don't want to stop or pause. The sound quality is superb. Purchased in DSD 128.
My first purchase with NativeDSD. Excellent sound and recording. Unbelievable real performance. Thanks.

This album reveals more with each listening — especially in high-resolution formats like Pure DSD 256.
What stands out is the natural presentation and the sense of space. The recording does not try to impress artificially — instead, it allows the music to breathe. The interaction between musicians feels real and unforced.
Microdynamics and low-level details are particularly engaging. Subtle nuances become more apparent over time, which makes repeated listening increasingly rewarding.
The piano timbre is especially convincing, and the overall tonal balance feels very organic.
A refined recording — clearly made with great care for sound quality.
Particularly rewarding on a revealing system.
A beautifully mixed album, with a very intimate and well-instrumented sound. Jared's silky voice invites you to sip a glass of whiskey and light a cigarette, sitting in front of the fireplace, or perhaps in your armchair, as you begin to immerse yourself in the melodies and your own thoughts.
The sound is warm, without any ear fatigue, very neutral and detailed, with a very precise soundstage. Some of the electronic effects are very well presented. The mastering, however, is overly compressed on some tracks, lacking air between the instruments and punch, though not excessively blurring the soundstage. Others, on the contrary, have good attack and just the right amount of punch.
In short, an album I will enjoy for many nights to come, sitting in front of the fireplace or on the terrace in summer under the starry sky.
This is a beautifully recorded album in Pure DSD 256. It is very well mastered in DSD which results in a superb music listening experience.
Frerichs piano sounds lovely with excellent tone and depth. All of the members shine on this album and I especially am impressed with how forward and articulate the drums are on the first song "Smile". If there is a complaint it is that at times bass player Tony Overwater is overshadowed by the piano and drums. Still an impressive Jazz album and worthy of your time.
From the moment I heard it, I was captivated. It has a very well-crafted rhythm section combined with the electronic saxophone and theremin, creating beautifully realized atmospheres. The sound features captivating electric harmonics and a good dynamic range, far removed from the loudness war.
It's one of the best electronic sonic experiences you can hear today. The first and last tracks are stunning and captivating.
