The choral art has been fertile ground for creative minds throughout history. Looking back, musicians have attempted to describe and categorize the methods and various periods of development. It is sometimes difficult to properly classify modern composers with specific musicological terminology – especially those who have been so influential as to develop entirely new methods and styles of composing during their careers.
Even so, classifications such as minimalist, serial, post-modern and neo-romantic have been used to describe several of the composers on this recording. This is not, however, intellectual music composed for the sake of difficulty or any binding form. All of the music heard on this program has been masterfully crafted with a single intent: to heighten the expression of the text. These are composers fully committed to the human experience created through the music and text.

The balances are excellently calibrated; the various parts are clearly heard, as are the words; all sections of the choir sing with firm tone; and there’s an excellent dynamic range. The overall sound of the choir is very pleasing and one is conscious of a natural, clear recording in which the engineers have used the acoustic of the venue intelligently. In short, this is a very responsive choir, expertly directed and the qualities I’ve just noted are apparent throughout their programme.
