Conspirare has many strengths, both technical and artistic, but to these earsamong its greatest is the ability to make music speak to the soul powerfully and persuasively. The music on this disc, then, finds a special advocate in Conspirare. These works address death and dying, love and loss, and remembrance. The musical language in them ranges from the simple harmonic clarity of an early American hymn tune to dissonant tone clusters. These artists find beauty in each sonority and constrain those sonorities to serve the rich texts that they set.
