Bachsolisten Seoul

Ever since the ensemble’s formal inception in 2005, Bachsolisten Seoul has built a reputable name for itself. The ensemble focuses on early music with a profound repertoire of baroque interpretations from the oeuvres of Johann Sebastian Bach to Claudio Monteverdi. A wide range of concert performances throughout the South Korean peninsula and beyond Japan has taken the ensemble to numerous Concert Halls, to Universities, and to churches, but also to a variety of renowned international classical music festivals. This includes the 2nd Seoul Early Music Festival, the 2nd and 3rd Chunchen Early Music Festival, both in South Korea, as well as to the Tsuru Early Music Festival in Japan. The eight ensemble members, all of them professionally and actively teaching at Universities throughout South Korea, have focused this performance work onto the unique character of a soloist formation with baroque instruments. Their performances cover a wide repertoire of madrigals, of motets, opera scenes, as well as sonnetts and passions by Claudio Monteverdi, or compositional vocal works by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Friedrich Handel, Dieterich Buxtehude, Antonio Caldara, Marc Antoine Charpentier, Giacomo Carissimi, and Giovanni Antonio Rigatti. Most recently Bachsolisten Seoul was honored with the third prize in the category of ‘Ensemble Music’ by the prestigious ‘Yamanashi Early Music Festival’ in Japan 2009. They finished a series of performances with the Japanese conductor Masaaki Suzuki of the music of Bach. Bachsolisten Seoul appreciates the privilege of a continuous cooperation with Masaaki Suzuki, Music Director of Bach Collegium Japan, as well as the mentorship of Terakado Ryo, Baroquevioline Professor at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
