Film Music For The Piano – Ivar Anton Waagaard

Available now at 40% OFF!

In the first half of my 50 + years as a radio personality, I was exposed to hundreds of ho-hum albums of songs from movies.  The last thing I wanted to hear was another version of the Theme from The Apartment, or the Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet.  And that’s why I avoided spending time with this album.  But there are times when the tensions of this world can make me want to just want to relax with something simple.  And that’s when I often find surprises, and this was one that was very pleasant!

Ivor Anton Waagaard is a Norwegian pianist known for his unusually broad musical reach: classical recitalist, chamber musician, accompanist, cabaret pianist, recording artist, and educator.  He is Associate Professor of Accompaniment at the Norwegian Academy of Music.   I’m not going to tell you that he makes these pieces sound like they were composed by Liszt, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, but he does bring light, warmth, and even charm and elegance to them.

These are not “supper-club” arrangements or performances; and they are not jazz arrangements.  They are true to their composers, and a great way remember why people loved them at the movies. Spend some time with the samples and see what you think.  And the Lawo Classics recording quality is excellent!
