Vents Contre Airs (Crosswinds) is a sophisticated and contemplative Jazz album from contrabassist Mathieu Desy, featuring clarinetist Charles Papasoff and percussionist Paul Picard. The project serves as a continuation of Desy’s Contrebasse & Marées project, described as a minimalist and poetic soundscape built around warm musical currents and a spirit of friendship.
The album features six original compositions by Desy, alongside pieces by Papasoff, Manuel De Falla, and an interpretation of a song by Feist, creating a unique universe where structured writing and improvisation coexist in a delicate balance.
Mathieu Desy says “Soaring on the tenderhearted wings of our friendship, Charles Papasoff, Paul Picard and I let ourselves glide on warm currents to share with you the segue to our Contrebasse & Marées project, Vents Contre Airs. From a bird’s eye view humming in mid-air suspension, a wholesome soundtrack to the unreality of our present era.”
