From working in the classical and jazz worlds to touring with pop acts, Mathieu is an authentic and versatile virtuoso who makes a difference in any musical project he tackles. His distinctive groove can be heard on over fifty recordings by Canadian artists. He’s also in demand as a composer, arranger and music producer. Bass players can learn about Mathieu’s evolving technique in his instructional booklet titled Bass vs. Gravity. The work exposes a simple approach to instrumental technique that focuses on the importance of gravity.

This vision led him to develop the polyphonic bass, a unique approach that expands the harmonic capabilities of his instrument. Using a five-string double bass with the high string tuned to D, Désy created a technique where a bass line, chords and melodyare played simultaneously.
