Camino is conceived as both a personal and artistic journey through Spanish music for violin and piano, spanning more than two centuries of musical thought. For the Duo Delibes — sisters Esther and Sara Gutiérrez, born in Valladolid and now based in Germany and the Netherlands — the project grew naturally from a recurring question encountered on international stages: can you perform Spanish music?
While a handful of celebrated Spanish works have secured a place in the standard repertoire, much of this rich tradition remains unexplored, unpublished, or unrecorded. The program presented here reflects years of research and discovery, revealing a lineage that resists easy stylistic categorization.
Federico Mosquera’s Metamorfosis opens the album with a contemporary voice rooted in transformation and motivic unity. Andrés Gaos’s expansive Sonata, written in Buenos Aires, evokes the late Romantic tradition while maintaining a distinct Iberian sensibility. Reaching further back, José Palomino’s elegant Classical Duetto recalls the cosmopolitan world of the eighteenth century, where Iberian and Italian influences intertwined.
Luis de los Cobos’s Nana del Campo Grande brings the journey full circle, connecting directly to Valladolid. Far from a simple lullaby, the work unfolds as a dark, reflective meditation — “a long ballad for adults disguised as a children’s lullaby.”
Together, these works form a musical path shaped by memory, migration, and rediscovery — a camino through repertoire that continues to emerge from the shadows.
