Harpsichordist Jory Vinikour returns to NativeDSD with his second recording of Bach on the Harpsichord. Presenting four masterworks for harpsichord by Johann Sebastian Bach, Jory Vinikour performs on a harpsichord modeled after German harpsichords of Bach’s time, notably Silbermann. The music speaks with richness and clarity.
The double-manual German harpsichord featured on this recording was built by Thomas and Barbara Wolf in 1995 at The Plains, Virginia. It is based on a single-manual instrument by Christian Vater, 1738, Hannover; FF (FF#) – e’’’ (a=415/440), 2 x 8’, 1 x 4’, coupler, buff (pictured pp. 5).
The Italian Concerto and the French Overture, both published by Bach in the 2nd volume of his Clavier Übung, are paired with two other great works – the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, as well as the concerto-like Prelude and Fugue in a minor.
