This production presents a world premiere recording of the “Requiem” (c.1530) by Antonio Gallego (of whom we have no information other than his name), which is preserved in the manuscript E-V5 of Valladolid Cathedral.
In the 16th century, it became common to compose cyclical masses specifically for the ritual surrounding death, the requiem, something we cannot separate from the emerging humanist sensibility. As the decades progressed, new and particular expressions of the meaning of existence and the relationship with the final moment became evident in literature and art.
