Lutebulb is the fifth album by the Austrian-based trio Blueblut, featuring Pamelia Stickney (theremin, vocals), Chris Janka (guitar, loops, samples) and Mark Holub (drums, vocals, percussion). The record captures the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration and international touring, presenting a highly inventive, polystylistic form of avant-prog.

Blueblut’s unusual lineup brings together musicians known for their work in experimental jazz, electronica and rock. Their music moves freely between improvisation, jazz, avant-rock, ska, folk and Krautrock, shifting from playful grooves to intense, expansive passages. The trio’s constantly evolving sound often feels larger than the sum of its parts, creating the impression of a much bigger ensemble.

Many of the pieces on Lutebulb grew out of material the band had been performing live for years. Most began as sketches by Chris Janka and were later developed collectively in rehearsals and on stage. The album marks a return to Blueblut’s core trio format and is their most composition-focused release so far—an expression of the band voice they have built over ten years of working together.

Across the album, echoes of artists such as John Zorn, Mr. Bungle, Primus, Henry Cow and Jimi Hendrix appear in spirit rather than imitation. With its sharp turns, playful experimentation and vivid sonic textures, Lutebulb presents Blueblut at the height of their creative energy.
