From an early age, violinist Niek Baar formed a deep and lasting connection with Beethoven’s Violin Concerto—an encounter that ignited a lifelong love for the instrument itself. First captivated at the age of eight, Niek recalls an early attempt to tackle the concerto’s iconic Rondo, guided wisely by a teacher who advised patience. Nevertheless, the piece remained a touchstone throughout his development, symbolizing both inspiration and aspiration over many years of musical growth.
This performance of the concerto marks a milestone in the violinist’s journey and has been preserved in both audio and film. Recorded alongside the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, the project captures the purity and sincerity of a live performance. Though some viewed the live recording as ambitious, Niek embraced the opportunity to immortalize an honest moment of artistic evolution. The recording stands not just as a document of achievement, but as a heartfelt tribute to the music that continues to shape his path.
Produced, recorded and mastered by renowned engineer Jared Sacks in Pure DSD Direct DSD 256 Stereo, Beethoven Violin Concerto is the first release from his new label Pelle D’oca:
“Italian for goosebumps.
The name alone whispers what the music promises:
those rare, electric moments when sound brushes the skin
and memories awaken,
carried from the past by a single note. Music has always done that for me —
called back forgotten feelings,
wrapped time in melody.
With this new label, I hope to pass that experience on to you. Pelle D’oca is not just a name;
it’s a commitment —
to artists of the highest caliber
and to sound so pure, it disappears,
leaving only the music
and the emotion it stirs.”

Jared Sacks has launched a new label, Pelle D’oca (“goosebumps” in Italian), debuting with a breathtaking Pure DSD256 recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto featuring Dutch violinist Niek Baar and the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra.
Praised for its transparency, clarity, and natural orchestral balance, the recording was captured and mixed entirely in the DSD domain—without PCM conversion or analog detours—marking a new era in high-resolution classical music releases. Baar’s nuanced, expressive performance is highlighted as his finest to date.
The project also represents Jared’s passion for Pure DSD, made possible with modern tools like HQPlayer Pro, and signals his commitment to continuing excellence after selling Channel Classics to Outhere Music. The label’s name and ethos celebrate music’s emotional power—the kind that gives you goosebumps.
This release not only celebrates a new label but sets a benchmark for audiophile-grade orchestral recordings.
