Stylus Fantasticus stands for a “free and unrestrained form of composing” (Johannes Dieterich, Prorsus Inventa). I have chosen this title for a number of reasons. All of the works presented here have a very free form of composition, at times almost like a written out improvisation, going from key to key in a free and unconventional way. It is full of fast transitions and sudden changes in affect, which are very characteristic of this particular style. This program shows a less conventional side of German baroque keyboard music full of fantasy and freedom.
