“Slancio moderato” (“Moderate rush”) is the first album by Duo Improbabile. It is a Crossover Jazz release that features original music by Virginia Guastella.
The title comes from Kandinsky’s last painting (originally known in French as “L’Élan tempéré,” also translated into Italian as “Temperato Élan” and into English as “Tempered Elan”); where art and reality once more penetrate each other. The repertoire is very varied. “L’era del ghiaccio” (“The Ice Age”) is articulated at first through relaxed musical images, within the lento ostinato in 11 and open to the cantabile harmonies in fourths, then getting tighter through the rhythmical grids that expand on the materials in countless disguises, reaching its apex in the percussive songo.
A rare work, distinguished by the remarkable definition created between two instruments almost never presented in this form: piano and drums as a pure duo.
Originally released in 2009 (VDM Records / RaiTrade), Slancio Moderato represents the first discographic chapter of the duo: a meeting point between composition and expressive freedom, rhythmic tension and formal architecture.
Virginia Guastella’s original compositions move across territories that engage with contemporary language and an openness to improvisation; Claudio Trotta’s drumming does not merely accompany, but plays a decisive role in shaping the sonic space, in a balance of shared energies and breathing.
Today the album returns in DSD, further enhancing depth of perspective, three-dimensionality, and dynamic refinement.
