Born in the historic halls of Salzburg’s Mozarteum University, Trio Callas emerges as a captivating and unique voice in the chamber music scene. Comprising three musicians with distinct backgrounds—Portuguese violinist Miguel Rocha, Brazilian-Japanese cellist Lucas Garcia Muramoto, and French pianist Bella Schütz—the trio presents a debut album that blends classical rigor with the vibrant colors of their multicultural heritage. The name Callas, paying homage to legendary diva Maria Callas, reflects not operatic grandeur but rather the fearless artistic individuality that drives the trio to unite historical depth with innovation.
This release marks the beginning of an ambitious project: the first complete recording of Mozart’s and Brahms‘ piano trios in immersive 3D audio, a technology that places listeners at the heart of the musical experience. The choice of composers is emblematic: Mozart, Salzburg’s native son, represents classical clarity and elegance; Brahms, Vienna’s icon, brings Romantic emotional depth. Both were cornerstones of the trio’s training during their years studying in Austria, now revisited with equal parts reverence and daring.
The album opens with interpretations of trios by Mozart and Brahms and culminates with the world premiere recording of “”Portais Brasileiros No. 5″”, a work commissioned from acclaimed Brazilian composer-pianist André Mehmari at the suggestion of renowned cellist Antonio Meneses.
Recorded at Estúdio Monteverdi, nestled in São Paulo’s Atlantic Forest, the piece journeys through Brazil’s soundscapes—from the urban rhythms of choro to the textures of the rainforest. Captured in discrete immersive 3D audio and available in high-resolution 9-channel and Dolby Atmos formats, the recording preserves not just the music but the unique atmosphere of the location and spatial dimensions, which merges seamlessly with Trio Callas’ high-level performance.
Together, they create a sound that is both disciplined and free, rooted in European tradition yet open to cross-cultural dialogue. This album is more than a recording—it’s an artistic statement that honors the past while redefining chamber music’s future.
