Gabor Varga tells us “This recording is a mirror that you should not look in, but listen to. And if you really pay attention, you can hear what we felt in Budapest on Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018 in Hungary. You can hear how much we enjoyed the freedom of improvisation, how we had a “conversation” with our instruments. Maybe you can even hear how we felt, but you will certainly hear one thing – how much we love music. Use this mirror carefree. No matter how you listen to this mirror, you will hear four happy musicians in this recording over and over again. We wish you a pleasant time.”

1 review for Sounds of Colours [Pure DSD]

Sounds of Colours is a sensory experience that redefines what we expect from contemporary Jazz. The Gabor Varga Jazz Quartet achieves a masterful balance between technical virtuosity and deep emotional sensitivity. Every musical passage is infused with a vibrant atmosphere, where Varga’s piano guides the listener through sonic textures that seem painted in the air, living up to the album’s title.

The quality of this work is exceptional, being a Pure DSD 128 Stereo recording. The recording allows the drum dynamics, the body of the double bass, and the brilliance of the brass to be felt with an astonishing physical presence. It is an album where the silence between notes is as important as the music itself, creating a soundscape full of artistic references and a transparency that only high-end equipment can fully reveal.
