Metamorphosis is conceived as a journey of transformation through life, love, and death. Rather than bringing together unrelated works, I wanted to shape this album as a single inner narrative.
The program begins with Stravinsky’s Three Movements from Petrushka, where a puppet is suddenly granted a human soul. For me, this is the first metamorphosis: the passage from lifelessness into consciousness, desire, and vulnerability. In Petrushka’s Room, he suffers isolation, confusion, and unreturned love, while outside the Shrovetide Fair bursts with dance, spectacle, and collective energy. That contrast is essential, because life contains both inward pain and outward celebration.
At the center of the album stands a Love Cycle of six works, which I hear as the emotional heart of human existence. Finally, the album closes with Liszt’s Totentanz, where death appears not simply as an ending, but as a final reckoning from which transcendence and renewal emerge.
