This album is a chronological journey from the Baroque to the 20th century, recounting the evolution of writing for two violins and highlighting the stylistic, expressive, and technical transformations that have characterised three centuries of music. The Baroque favours an elegant, virtuoso style, with composers such as Jean-Marie Leclair and Francesco Geminiani creating a dialogue between the two instruments characterised by balance and delicate ornamentation. In Classicism, Ignace Pleyel and Giovanni Battista Viotti developed a more symmetrical and melodic style of writing, with a clear interplay between the violins that reflected the harmony and lightness of the era. In Romanticism, Charles-Auguste de Bériot brings greater emotional intensity, introducing virtuosity and melodic freedom, with deeper expression. Finally, in the 20th century, Béla Bartók experimented with complex rhythms, dissonances and innovative sonorities, enriching the dialogue between the violins with unique timbre research and an integration of Hungarian folk music. Each composer enriched the writing for two violins, adding new stylistic and technical dimensions to the musical dialogue.
